United Airlines Faces Lawsuit Alleging Discrimination on Dodgers Charter Flights

Two veteran flight attendants from United Airlines have filed a lawsuit against the company, accusing them of racial and age discrimination in staffing charter flights for the Los Angeles Dodgers. The lawsuit, filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges that United Airlines favored younger, white flight attendants for these flights at the request of the Dodgers. The plaintiffs claim that minority female attendants were removed from these flights, and replaced by less-experienced individuals who fit a specific “look” without the need for interviews, thus engaging in discrimination.

One of the plaintiffs, Darby Quezada, who has Black, Mexican, and Jewish heritage, alleges that she endured derogatory comments, including being referred to as the “flight’s maid” and being told to stop speaking Spanish with a Dodgers player. The other plaintiff, Dawn Todd, who is Black, says she suffered retaliation for complaining about discrimination and the denial of benefits. While the Dodgers are not listed as defendants, the plaintiffs’ attorney suggests that United Airlines made staffing decisions based on the team’s preferences.

In response to the lawsuit, United Airlines stated that they do not tolerate discrimination and believe the lawsuit is without merit. The plaintiffs are seeking a jury trial and unspecified damages. This lawsuit comes after a similar one in 2020, which alleged discrimination against Black and Jewish flight attendants in charter services for various athletic teams.
