Indirectly declaring the newly-elected US government’s position on the controversial concept of ‘net neutrality’, the US Federal Communications Commission, which is headed by Republican nominee Ajit Pai, has cleared a proposal demanding the cancellation of the net neutrality rule introduced in the year 2015 by the then government, led by Barack Obama, at the behest of the democrats.
The proposed process of eliminating all restrictions over the internet service providers may enable the internet service provider giants to impose some serious restrictions on the accessibility of web contents.
Many, including several technical experts, democrats and companies such as Alphabet and Facebook, have advised the FCC to keep the rule undistorted or intact.
It seems that the republicans either are in no mood to listen to the requests made by those who are directly affected by the proposal, or have no idea where they are heading to through this proposal.
Anyway, many consumers, technical experts and companies are likely to approach the judicial system to get the law reinstated.
Meanwhile, the service providers have asserted that they are not going to make any restrictions on the accessibility of web contents, but are only planning to prioritise the contents in accordance with the money those who develop the contents pay.
