Senator Elizabeth Warren, the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, has demanded that Kevin Warsh, nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as the next Federal Reserve Chair, clarify any connections he may have had with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In a letter sent Wednesday, Warren raised concerns after Warsh’s name surfaced in government-released documents linked to Epstein, who died in prison in 2019.
Warren pointed to communications referencing a 2010 holiday gathering on the Caribbean island of St. Barthélemy, where Warsh’s name appeared in email exchanges among Epstein’s associates. She questioned whether Warsh attended the event or had any direct or indirect interactions with Epstein or his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Stressing the importance of transparency, Warren requested detailed responses to eight questions by March 31, including any travel to the island, attendance at social events involving Epstein, and communications with individuals connected to him.
The inquiry comes as Warsh’s confirmation process faces uncertainty, with political tensions already complicating proceedings. A separate investigation involving current Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell has prompted Republican Senator Thom Tillis to signal he may block the nomination until the probe concludes. Meanwhile, Powell has stated he will remain in his role until a successor is confirmed and will continue serving at the Federal Reserve during the ongoing investigation.
