Goldman Counsel Faces Congress Over Epstein Links

Goldman Sachs senior counsel Kathryn Ruemmler is set to face intense questioning before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform as lawmakers continue investigating Jeffrey Epstein’s connections with influential figures in politics and business. The hearing follows the release of U.S. Justice Department documents showing Ruemmler exchanged extensive communications with Epstein between 2014 and 2019 and accepted gifts from him.

Ruemmler stepped down as Goldman Sachs’ chief legal officer and general counsel at the end of June but remains with the firm as senior counsel until a successor is appointed. Her spokesperson maintains she acted appropriately as a criminal defense attorney and had no knowledge of any ongoing criminal activity involving Epstein during their interactions.

The committee has already interviewed several high-profile figures linked to Epstein, including former President Bill Clinton, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Goldman Sachs has declined to comment, while CEO David Solomon previously said Ruemmler chose to step aside because the controversy made it difficult for her to perform her responsibilities.
