A woman sentenced to 14 months in jail on Monday for engaging in sexual contact with a 15-year-old boy while living at his family’s house.
According to court records, Leslie Dewalt, 37, had residences in Zanesville and Dayton but was residing in Troy at the time of the offences in 2022.
She was charged with felony unlawful sexual conduct with a juvenile at first, but pled guilty to an amended charge of attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor later.
Dewalt told Miami County Common Pleas Court Judge Stacy Wall that she was seeing a counsellor and taking medicine at the time of the offence, but that the medication “wasn’t working at the time.”
The alleged activities of Dewalt were “very serious,” according to Matthew Joseph, assistant county prosecutor. Treatment would be needed, but jail was also necessary, he added.
DeWalt was sentenced to 14 months in prison, with credit awarded for the 118 days she had spent in custody since her arrest. She was also classified as a Tier II sex offender. Following her release from jail, DeWalt will be required to record her address with the sheriff in the county where she lives, works, or attends school for the next 25 years.
