According to authorities, at least nine people were injured in a mass shooting early Tuesday in Denver, in an area where basketball enthusiasts were celebrating the Nuggets’ first NBA title triumph.
A suspect has been apprehended.
The incident occurred about 12.30 a.m., roughly three and a half hours after the game, and three of the victims were in severe condition, according to the Denver Police Department.
The suspect, a guy, was one among seven persons who sustained non-life threatening injuries.
The incident took place around 1.5 km from Ball Arena, where the Nuggets beat the Miami Heat on Monday night.
“As far as what led up to this altercation that resulted in the shots being fired, that’s still under investigation at this time,” said police spokesman Doug Schepman.
“It did happen in the area where we had the largest gathering of people celebrating late at night.”
The site was cordoned off, and evidence markers were placed.
He stated there was a small throng in the vicinity at the time of the shooting, but it had “diminished quite a bit at that point.”
He further stated that the incident occurred in an area where many people may have exited bars following the game.
Mr Schepman characterised the ongoing probe as “extensive” as police were questioning witnesses.
