Controversial Rallies in Dearborn Spark Widespread Concern

In Dearborn, Michigan, a rally held on the last day of Ramadan, known as International Al-Quds Day, has ignited controversy with chants of “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” echoing through the crowds. The event, spotlighted by a video now viral on social media, featured Michigan-based activist Tarek Bazzi, who is linked to the Hadi institute, leading the charge with remarks that have stirred significant backlash. Bazzi’s speech, wherein he called for the overthrow of the American “system” and labeled the US as “one of the rottenest countries,” has amplified tensions and drawn criticism from various quarters.

The rally, which also saw the desecration of an Israeli flag, is part of a larger wave of protests in Dearborn against US policies, especially concerning Israel and the funding of the Gaza war. Statements made by Bazzi, advocating for the elimination of Israel and referring to President Biden as “Genocide Joe,” have highlighted the extremist rhetoric that has found a foothold in the city. The phrase “From the river to the sea,” often classified as hate speech by American Jews, was among the slogans chanted, further polarizing the community.

Dearborn has been under the spotlight with media and political figures expressing concern over the increasing prevalence of extremist rhetoric and actions. The city, which has been dubbed “America’s Jihad Capital” by some US media, has witnessed significant protests against President Joe Biden and calls for Democrats to vote “uncommitted” in the upcoming elections. Despite these tensions, local lawmaker Rep. Phil Green emphasized that the majority of Dearborn’s citizens are peaceful and do not endorse violence, highlighting the need for close monitoring and response to these emerging movements.
