Third Suspect Charged in Kansas City Chiefs’ Victory Parade Shooting

A third individual, Terry J. Young, 20, has been charged in connection to the tragic shooting that occurred during the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory parade in February, leading to the death of one woman and injuring at least 25 others. Prosecutors have charged Young with 2nd degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action. The incident, which took place outside Union Station in Kansas City on Feb. 14, resulted in the death of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a 43-year-old popular local radio DJ and community organizer, whose funeral was attended by hundreds.

According to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, surveillance footage captured Young engaging in a verbal altercation that escalated when firearms were drawn. Young was identified partly through social media, where he appeared wearing a distinctive backpack seen in surveillance footage, and cellphone data confirmed his presence at the scene. In light of these findings, prosecutors have requested a $1 million cash bond for Young.

This announcement follows the charges against two other men, Dominic M. Miller of Kansas City and Lyndell Mays of Raytown, last month. Additionally, the number of juveniles charged about the shooting has increased to three, with the latest being a 15-year-old facing charges of unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action. As the case unfolds, further charges are anticipated, highlighting the incident’s complexity and the ongoing efforts of Kansas City Police homicide detectives to bring those responsible to justice.
