TrumpRx Expands to 600+ Generic Drugs in Bid to Lower Prescription Costs

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the government-backed TrumpRx platform will significantly expand its offerings by adding more than 600 generic medicines, including widely prescribed drugs such as atorvastatin for cholesterol management and metformin for diabetes treatment. The move is part of the administration’s broader effort to improve access to affordable medications and reduce healthcare costs for Americans.

Originally launched in January as part of Trump’s most-favored-nation drug pricing initiative, TrumpRx initially focused on branded medicines. The platform does not sell medications directly but redirects users to participating providers. The expanded service will integrate pricing and discount information from companies such as Amazon Pharmacy, Cost Plus Drugs, and GoodRx, allowing consumers to compare costs and access discounted generic medicines.

The administration says agreements reached with 17 major pharmaceutical companies, which include temporary tariff exemptions in exchange for aligning U.S. drug prices more closely with those in other developed nations, could generate an estimated $64.3 billion in savings over the next decade. However, analysts note that the actual savings for consumers remain uncertain, particularly because the platform primarily targets uninsured purchases, meaning many transactions may not count toward insurance deductibles. Critics have also pointed out that some listed prices remain higher than those available in countries such as the United Kingdom.
