Venezuelan supremo blocks referendum process despite international pressure

The Venezuelan supremo has tactically blocked a referendum process seeking removal of the President, Nicolas Maduro, despite extreme international pressure on the country’s administration from the world powers and neighboring countries to allow it to take place. As per the report, the opposition leader, Henrique Capriles, who is the governor of the Venezuelan state of Miranda, alleged that the ruling government has indirectly staged a coup to derail the referendum process. Recently, the election authorities blocked the referendum process citing that some fraud had been taken place. Anyway, the opposition parties will conduct a national wide protest on next week in order to express their extreme anger over the president’s move. The opposition parties strongly believe that if the government conduct a genuine referendum, the president will surely loose his position. In a bid to strengthen their argument, they pointed out that the opposition parties enjoy tremendous support in congress as well as streets.

They strongly suspected that the move to derail the referendum was a well-planned strategy executed by the supremo and his loyal servants. Even though the opposition enjoys extreme support in the congress, the country’s supremo still can influence the electoral officials and, even, court. While speaking to the medias, another opposition leader Jesus Torrealba claimed that no government can forcefully postpone the change demanded by the country and its people unanimously. It seems that the world powers like the United States and some Latin American countries are strongly supporting the opposition parties and their demands. The issue will surely put more burden and struggle on the ailing Venezuela. This country surely needs strong financial and foreign aid as it is going through a tough financial crisis.
