Samsung Electronics expects its shareholder returns this year to reach as much as 110 trillion won ($79.54 billion), including 30 trillion won in cash dividends in the third quarter. The payout would be more than five times the company’s previous record of 20.3 trillion won set in 2020.
The move comes as Samsung faces growing pressure from shareholders to share the benefits of surging AI-driven chip profits. The company has also bought back 15 trillion won of shares for employee stock bonuses, while its board will decide on additional dividends, buybacks and share cancellations in January 2027.
Samsung shares rose 3.5% on Friday, while SK Hynix gained 4.4%. Samsung’s chip profit jumped more than 250-fold in the second quarter to 89 trillion won, highlighting the strength of the AI-led semiconductor boom. Samsung and SK Hynix are expected to hold a combined $263 billion in net cash by year-end, underscoring their growing financial strength.
