GM Probe Over Engine Failure Concerns

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an investigation into nearly 1 million General Motors pickup trucks and SUVs over concerns about engine failures. The probe covers 997,743 vehicles from the 2021–2026 model years equipped with GM’s L87 engines, including the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Yukon.

The safety regulator said it received 499 complaints alleging engine failures even after the vehicles had undergone an earlier recall remedy. GM recalled the affected vehicles last year to address engine-failure concerns, which the automaker attributed to a supplier-related issue.

NHTSA said its latest engineering analysis will examine engine failures reported after the recall and assess whether GM’s repairs were effective. The investigation could determine whether additional corrective action is needed for the affected vehicles.
